You don’t need to be a professional writer. You just need to have a story to tell. This is our mantra as editors of All About Support, a brand-new online UK magazine for and by people that support and care for children, teens and young adults.
Support work is demanding. It requires resilience, hard work, emotional intelligence and a deep commitment to improve the lives of the young people in your care. This vital work often happens quietly, behind the scenes, and is rarely written about online. Recording and publishing these experiences could resonate with other professionals across a range of fields, helping to inform their practice and encouraging them to recognise and celebrate their own successes.
We believe that writing about support work matters. Beyond helping other practitioners, the process can be both cathartic and stimulating – a way to slow down, reflect on and make sense of your personal and professional experiences through an external medium: writing. This is what All About Support is here to encourage and facilitate.
We understand that not everyone feels confident about writing, or knows where to start. Some contributors will be experienced writers, while others may feel far more confident in the quality and impact of the support they deliver than in putting it into words. You don’t need to write perfectly. We are here to help you communicate your experience clearly and authentically, offering editorial support throughout the process, from structure and tone to clarity and flow. The story is what counts, as the title suggests, and we’ll work with you to help bring it to life on the page.
